St. Patrick's Parish Music Ministry
The Saturday 7:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 a..m. and 10:30 a.m. Eucharistic Celebrations at St. Patrick's are all enhanced by songs of praise and sung prayers of the Mass, led by a large group of committed musicians and singers. Music is also a regular feature of weddings and funerals and other services held in the church.
The 7:00 Saturday Mass features music suiting the youth-and-family focus of the liturgy, with songs and hymns from the Family Mass Song Hymnal (specially produced with copyright secured for the parish), Glory and Praise and the Catholic Book of Worship III. Two music groups with a variety of instruments alternate weeks in providing the music in all but the summer months. The two groups hold practices weekly or as-needed; for details, and if you are interested in joining, please contact the parish office.
The 8:30 Sunday Mass hymns and service music are presented by organist and cantor Susan Smedley, with an informal group of unison singers, using traditional hymns from the Catholic Book of Worship III and occasionally newer, well-known songs from Glory and Praise. The singers prepare for the next Sunday's Mass in the church at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evenings, usually for 30-60 minutes.
The 10:30 Sunday choir is directed by organist Susan Smedley, and sings new and traditional hymns and service music from the Catholic Book of Worship III and Glory and Praise, as well as from the hymnal supplement Celebrate in Song. This Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass group of approximately 15-20 members practices in the church on Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:00 p.m. from September through June, and welcomes new members throughout the year.
The "Alleluia" choir gathers occasionally to provide hymns and service music at parish funerals. Arrangements are made through the parish office and funeral and music directors.
